Life Lesson #2
I recently remembered a story I heard when I was a kid about a man named John Chapman. He lived from 1774-1845, and was a frontier man. He went west during a time of great uncertainty in our nation’s history. He made sure that he shared his faith with everyone that he encountered. Awesome man. This man had the foresight to know that many, many people would be going west like he did. He also knew that these people would need food, shelter and many others things on their journey. So he began to plant. Some accounts say that the...

I have learned many lessons over the years, but the one that sticks out to me is one about self-reliance. Most people spend too many hours, days and even years making excuses for why they ‘can’t’. I am one of those people. It is way easier to do the task than to think of ways to get out of the task. This however involves a balance of can do attitude and humbleness. One can’t go around believing that they can move mountains with less than a mustard seeds sized faith. Maybe you are one who thinks that others should...

Today’s high: 74 farenheit. The warmest we’ve been all year. So many people out today from their hibernation. To me, this time of year speaks 2 things: Easter and Baseball. And since opening day this year lands on Easter, I will speak of baseball first, so I can talk about Easter, on Easter. People who know me well know that I am very passionate about baseball. I believe it to be one of only a handful of things that are uniquely American. It is heartbreaking, joyous, interactive, seductive, and utterly beautiful. Men who...

As i get older, i realize a lot of things. i realize that as a kid, i worried too much about what people thought of me. Some impressions however, are important, and have lasted a lifetime. For better or worse, they last. i have also realized that parenting is not for the faint of heart. When i became a father, my whole world-view was altered tremendously. Yet one more mouth to feed. One more life that i am responsible for. Everyday. This little girl will be molded more by my wife and i than anyone, or anything else. Sobering to say...

Spring forward to lose sleep…sounds exhausting. time is becoming more useless to me everyday. i forget about it, it creeps up on me, and i feel guilty for not paying attention. ’Time is money’, ‘time is wasting’, ‘time is short’. All things we’ve heard before. my thought today: do i care about my time more than i do others? Is mine more valuable? Then i think of Jesus praying in the garden. While the disciples slept, He prayed. More than likely for them and himself. i bet He...

Change. More than words, more than actions, more than lifestyle. An ever evolving, rotating world of chaos and order. It hurts when real change happens. Makes us realize how big and little we are, and how much we actually ‘fail’ and ‘succeed’. Some weird, wild stuff. Today was busy. David Horne and I spent it recording new stuff for everyone to share in. It was and is awesome. Learning more everyday about sharing what God has given me. I really hope you all can catch a live show in the near future....

Listening to ‘Battle Studies’ by John Mayer. Good record. I like the tunes. I don’t think he could write a bad song if he tried. I just don’t think he tried to write ‘great’ songs on this one. It lacks that ‘wow’ factor that he usually brings out of recordings. Please don’t get me wrong. I’ll probably wear this CD out like I have the rest of them. I’m just not supper impressed. Maybe that was the wow factor of this record. As an artist, I’ve come to realize that my work does not define me. It comes...

I wanted to say thanks to everyone who came to iCoffee saturday night. It was great to see so many people who wanted to send Meryl and her husband off into a brave new frontier. We will miss you and pray well-being and solitude in your lives. Also, thanks to all who have started coming here to see what’s going on. Thanks for stopping by. I realize things get busy, or hectic, or even angry sometimes. Today (yesterday at this point) my body was angry with me. Back and Headaches all day and into the night. A little sleep, but insomnia wins again. So, I write. Even at 2:24am, the world seems alive: big. I can hear cars drive by my small house and I wonder if they have had the same 24-hour experiences I have. The fact they are driving at this time of day: does that mean they are out of the norm or just chugging through the same old...
